Introducing the Aromabox; a home compostable, zero plastic, coffee packaging solution for beans and grounds. Produced using Bamboo-O, an eco-friendly material made from Taiwanese bamboo fibre and plant starch.
After years of research and development, Earthmade's manufacturers have developed specialised manufacturing techniques to produce an all-new and innovative eco-friendly material—Bamboo-O. Utilising the flexibility of starch and the toughness of Taiwanese bamboo, Bamboo-O can be rigid like plastic but is completely home-compostable.
Earthmade approached Beta with a vision to shake up the coffee packaging industry, providing roasteries and retailers with a sustainable alternative to PLA lined paper and plastic bags.
From the very beginning, Beta envisioned a concept of "natural circulation", with the goal to design coffee packaging that not only provides an enjoyable user experience but also inspires consumers to engage in sustainability without sacrificing convenience.
Beta underwent multiple iterations from the first prototype based on market research and feasibility testing. As a result, the design fulfils the core function of coffee packaging—storing coffee and keeping it fresh—while also satisfying the sustainability commitment that Earthmade stands by.
Earthmade offers the Aromabox in two different lid styles: push-fit and screw-top. With features including an integrated cork layer, tight and secure sealing, and vertical tessellation when empty, allowing roasteries to save on space and transportation costs.
On the underside of the Aromabox you’ll find the degassing valve. The one-way valve allows carbon dioxide to escape and prevent air from entering. The valve is a crucial part of Earthmade's design as it preserves the coffee's flavour, aroma, and texture.
Designed to return to the earth at the end of its life-cycle, Earthmade encourages the consumer to reuse their Aromaboxes. In the right conditions Bamboo-O will break down in around 6 months, but in a dry environment it can last for up to 5 years.
The containers are fully dishwasher safe and rated to 120 degrees Celsius, allowing them to be utilised in many other ways.
Earthy tones and organic tactility feature heavily across Earthmade's colour palette, art direction and branding. These have been carefully selected, referencing the natural environment and circular lifecycle of the Aromabox and its contents.
